Back To The Future
Adrian Michaels
Vice President of Promotions Curb Records

Executive Follow Up Memo for CRS 40 “Back To The Future” was a great panel to revisit the 40 year history of CRS while also getting a peek into what the next 40 years should look like for us in both Radio and Records.

The panel was moderated by the beloved Charlie Monk. A man that has attended all 40 years of CRS. Charlie invited Tom McEntee (The Founder of CRS) and legendary promotions man Elroy Kahanek. Both Tom and Elroy spoke for an hour of all their memories of how CRS has grown to be the event it is today. We could have listened to them tell their stories for days. We need more panels that help us to understand how our format has grown to be what it is today.

Tonya Campos was next up as she discussed the present day concerns and job description of being a PD in one of countries largest markets. As one of the few female PD’s in this market she showed that dreams can come true. Tanya started over 30 years ago in a small station in New Mexico and now programs one of the countries leading stations KKGO.

Last up was an eye opening presentation given by Lindsay Schutte from Frank Magid and Associates, Inc. A 50 year company specializing in Media, Communications and Entertainment research and strategy. They have an impressive client list that includes Sony, Fox, Disney, Southwest Airlines and FX to name a few. Lindsay concentrated on giving us a snapshot into the future with a presentation called:

Meet the Millenials : The Future Of Radio Business Here was the 4 key parts of her presentation.

1) Millenials are your next target
2) Millenials will never grow into their parent’s media habits.
3) Millenials view radio as a cultural outlet.
4) You can reach out to Millenials today and tomorrow.

MILLENIALS WILL NEVER GROW INTO BABY BOOMER HABITS….. There is a great handout available from CRB regarding Lindsay’s presentation. See you next year at CRS 41
